Feast of Trumpets: Preparation

With the Feast of Trumpets approaching, it is time to prepare — not only to observe the day, but to honor the Most High in doing so. Honoring Him is not about keeping a date on the calendar; it is about understanding what He commanded and why. For many, this feast is simply a day when trumpets are blown. But if the Most High established an appointed day around a sound, we should ask: what do trumpets mean to Him, and what do they mean for us?

   A feast marked by a sound.

   Leviticus 23 gives a timeline. At the beginning of the year, in Africa’s spring, the cycle begins with Passover, then Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, and the Feast of Weeks — feasts tied to the early harvests, reminders of deliverance, provision, and faithfulness. Then, in the seventh month, the Most High commands another holy convocation, marked not by a harvest or a meal but by a sound. Scripture doesn’t immediately explain it; it simply commands that the day be kept as a memorial and that the trumpets be sounded.

   Speak unto the children of Akobi, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.

   What trumpets are for.

   Numbers 10 gives the detail Leviticus leaves out. Two silver trumpets, of a whole piece — and four uses: to gather the people together before the Most High; to direct their movement, signaling that it was time to move according to His order; to sound an alarm in war or danger, a call for divine remembrance and deliverance; and to mark sacred times and celebrations, a memorial before Him. Put together, the trumpet is a signal. It calls people together, it signals movement, it warns of danger, and it marks sacred moments.

   And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before uSoNINI NaNINI your uSomandla, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.

   We have been signaled.

   So when Leviticus calls the day a memorial of blowing of trumpets, the feast itself is meant to serve as a signal to the people of uSoNINI NaNINI. We’ve been signaled to gather, to awaken, and to prepare for what the Most High has in store. The feast reminds us that He calls His people together, that He directs their movement, that He warns them when danger approaches, and that sacred moments before Him must be recognized and honored.

   Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your uSomandla: I am uSoNINI NaNINI your uSomandla.
