Remembering Who We Are

Not something new, not a heavy word — just a moment to stop, be still, and remember. We are His. He is ours. And between us and uSoNINI NaNINI there is a covenant that is still standing.

1. 01

   Learn not.

   The world around us doesn’t operate on that covenant. It has its own rhythm, its own days, its own things it calls worth celebrating — and if we’re not intentional, that rhythm starts to feel familiar. It’s never a loud moment; it’s quiet and gradual. Notice what He said first: learn not. Not “avoid,” not “be careful around.” Don’t let it become something you know by habit, because the moment it becomes familiar it stops feeling foreign, and once it stops feeling foreign it stops feeling like something you were ever called away from.

   Thus saith uSoNINI NaNINI, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

   The customs of the nations are vain. No lasting substance. Nothing in them points back to Him.

   Peculiar means belonging.

   We weren’t just warned to avoid empty things — we were pulled out of the nations entirely. Peculiar doesn’t mean strange. It means belonging specifically to someone. Set apart, reserved, the way you set something aside because it has a particular purpose and you don’t want it mixed in with everything else. That’s what He did with us.

   For thou art an holy people unto uSoNINI NaNINI thy uSomandla, and uSoNINI NaNINI hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

3. 03

   A sign between us.

   That distinction isn’t just a title He gave us and moved on from. He attached something to it — a sign that would mark the relationship between Him and His people across every generation. The Samba isn’t just a day of rest; it’s a marker. It’s how we remember who sanctified us, and how He remembers who is His. Every time we honor it, we reaffirm the covenant. And His feasts are His: my feasts. Not suggestions, not traditions we can swap out for something more convenient.

   Speak thou also unto the children of Akobi, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am uSoNINI NaNINI that doth sanctify you.

   Every time we let it pass by without acknowledgment, we’re letting something slip that was never meant to be optional.

4. 04

   Not of the world.

   He said it twice. That’s not a standard we’re reaching for — that’s a reality we’re already standing in. We live here, we work here, we have family here. But we don’t belong to it, and we were never meant to move by its calendar, celebrate by its customs, or find our identity in what it calls important. Come out from among them; be separate. That’s the posture — not isolation, but distinction. We’re not hiding from the world. We’re just not running by its clock.

   I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
